The small village of Gunness is on the banks of the river Trent 3 miles West of Scunthorpe. Travellers on the busy A18 passing through Gunness
and over the river on the historic and imposing King George V "Keadby" bridge often mis-read the sign and think they are in a village named after the famous Irish stout. Although only a small village Gunness is surprisingly busy with a number of industries operating in the community including a large poultry hatchery and a highly successful timber merchants. The rich soil in the area has been used for farming for hundreds of years and this continues today. Ships from all over the world load and unload their various cargoes at the wharf situated within the village. |
